US sales tax amnesty explained
What you need to know about the Online Marketplace Voluntary Disclosure Initiative from the Multistate Tax Commission (MTC)
Twenty-four U.S. states (and counting) are rolling out a new programme that gives qualifying online sellers the chance to begin filing sales tax without paying penalties or back taxes. The move is part of a broader effort across the U.S. by states that hope to expand their sales tax revenue from online sales.
The window to participate is brief (August 17 – October 17). No online seller, particularly Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) merchants, can afford to miss the chance to educate themselves about the programme.
Join Michael Fleming, director of Peisner Johnson, and Scott Peterson, Vice President of U.S. Tax Policy and Government Relations for Avalara, who will address these topics and answer audience questions:
- Factors to consider if weighing the decision to apply for amnesty
- Eligibility for amnesty
- What to expect from states hoping to expand their sales tax revenue
- How to move forward with the Voluntary Disclosure process
Busy on 24th August? Register anyway and we’ll send you the recording.
